Údarás na Gaeltachta, the Gaeltacht Authority, is the regional government agency with responsibility for the economic, social and language/cultural development of the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) areas of Ireland. An tÚdarás pursues its core language preservation and development objectives through job and wealth creation and a wide range of community, arts, language and cultural initiatives.
A recent strategic Údarás na Gaeltachta initiative is the development and promotion of cultural tourism. The Authority's objective is to brand and promote the Gaeltacht areas as very different holiday destinations because of the Irish language, spoken as a community language, and because of the distinctive culture and ethos of the Gaeltacht, reflected in its music, song and dance in areas naturally endowed with some of Ireland's finest scenery. The tourism initiative is being pursued through the effective use and promotion of the brand name GaelSaoire, Holidays in the Gaeltacht.

Seachtain na Gaeilge is a non-profit organisation, which promotes the use of Irish language and culture both at home and abroad within a two-week festival held in March every year, and this year took place between the 2nd - 17th March 2009. The festival has built up incredible momentum in recent years, becoming the largest celebration of our native language and culture held in Ireland every year and sweeping other countries up in the whirlwind along the way. With events ranging from simple conversational evenings to street céilís; speed dating to wine tasting it gives everyone a chance to experiment with Irish whether fluent from youth or only dipping their toe in for the first time. Organisations, local councils, schools, libraries, music, sporting & cultural bodies all register their Seachtain na Gaeilge events with us.
